Course Content

1. The Leadership Gap

In the journey of leadership, every individual inevitably encounters moments where they confront the boundaries of their personal capacity and the calling upon their life and ministry, compared with the demands they perceive. This disparity between our current state as leaders and the expectations of our leadership roles is what we term as “the gap”. Within this space lies not only the necessity for faith but also the crucible of pressure and stress. How we navigate these moments shapes not only our own leadership development but also profoundly influences those under our guidance and care.

2. Leader as Coach & Mentor

The coach and mentor approach emphasises a supportive and collaborative leadership style aimed at fostering continuous learning, skill development, and overall well-being among team members. Leaders who embrace this approach see greater success of their team members, ultimately contributing to the overall success of the organisation.

3. The 3 Tests of Leadership

Every leader encounters 3 main trials along their leadership journey; Trials of success, of failure, and of betrayal. Understanding the reasons behind these challenges and recognising how they can be instruments in one’s growth, enables leaders to harness the learning for personal development, preventing them from derailing their ministry.

4. Spiritual Warfare

There seems to be a particular type of warfare that leaders need to understand and engage in. This warfare can be centred around you as a leader but also around your ministry or team. Knowing how to overcome with witchcraft, jezebel and others is an unfortunate but necessary leadership activity.

5. Character and Maturity

This forms the foundation of who we are as people and therefore who we are as a leader. While we could spend the entire 8 sessions exploring the elements of character and maturity, we will explore the power of humility, what drives you in ministry, relational intelligence in addition to emotional intelligence and probably the most important character trait of a leader; courage.

6. Secure vs Abusive Leadership

Secure leadership is characterised by leaders who possess confidence in themselves, their abilities, and their team. They demonstrate trustworthiness, integrity, and emotional stability. On the other hand abusive leadership involves leaders who use their power and authority to manipulate, intimidate, and prioritise their own interests over the well-being of their team. Their style is one of fear.

7. Leadership Challenges

Leaders inevitably face both spiritual and practical challenges that test their authority and identity. How we navigate this directly influences our development as leaders and profoundly impacts us and those we lead.

8. Leadership Transitions

Changes of leadership of a small team or an organisation all need to be facilitated with care and purpose. Navigating the turbulence of transition to give the new leader the platform for success is crucial to the ongoing success and fulfilment of the vision and purpose for the team or organisation.
